Racist people in public services

I wasn’t born in Australia and I’m not Anglo-saxon. But I am a citizen. I’ve grown up and been in the country for so long that I’ve become fluent in English and can no longer speak my native language properly. For the record, I’ve also taken up and completed several courses so I can honestly say I’m not stupid, yet late yesterday afternoon, I was treated as if I was stupid and that I couldn’t understand English.

The trains were out so I asked the guy behind the ticket stand where I need to be to get to Sydney. The response I got was a whole lot of eye rolling, a loud “you must be stupid so I’ll slow things down for you” tone and a snide looking face that I’d like to punch but wouldn’t touch with a 10feet pole.

I got the vaguest response ever: “On the other side of the train station”. The train station is at a steep incline and more than a 200meters long. Carrying a heavy load I asked for him to clarify, so this time I get the same set of instructions with extra attitude on the side – WHAT AN ASSHOLE! A second customer asked the same question. He happened to be Anglo-saxon so ofcourse I get compared to him with a derogatory comment: “He got it the first time and I had to explain it to you 5 times” – this guy can’t count – he only explained it twice.

I thought of letting it roll, but chances are, if he’s done it to me, he’s done it to someone else so I put in a formal complaint because the area I’m staying at presently has many overseas students who come mainly from Asia. We are usually timid people but this guy really pissed me off. I really wish this scum either gets bashed by people who finally get enough off him or gets fired. As upset as I am, I hope the later and not the first. Someone who works in public service requires more people skills than a piece of turd.
