Unethical conduct
I did something rather unethical at work. I didn’t steal or anything like that, I just did something to make a project come out right, but I did it in a very wrong way and it could get me fired if my boss ever found out. It’s not likely anyone will ever find out, although I did tell one person, but there is a very small possibility it could happen. I feel I can trust the person I told, but you never really know. I know there was really no other way to make the project come out to the customer’s liking and that was my whole reason for doing it that way, but I still feel very guilty about it and pretty nervous. I had a great deal of trouble sleeping last night and because of that, I know I’ll never bend the rules again, no matter what, but for now this is eating me up inside. The thing is, I’m a very “by-the-rules” person. I usually don’t cut corners. I was just frustrated after a day of things just not going right and I wanted to make this thing work out right. Just had to get this off my chest.

Usually businessws have an “end justifies the means” kind of attitude. Unless what you did was illegal I wouldn’t really worry about it. Obviously this depends on what you did, and I’m sure you can’t give too much detail even though we’d all love to hear it.

This isn’t the scenario, but similar – Let’s say you work at a dry cleaner’s and someone brings in, say a silk garment. There is something on the silk garment that can only be taken out by let’s say, milk (I told you this isn’t the true scenario, right?). The rules are that you NEVER, EVER use milk on any fabric, but you know it will work and you know it won’t hurt the fabric. So you, just out of frustration and with the knowledge that you can get the job done, dive in and use the milk. That’s basically what went down, details changed to protect the innocent, or not-so-innocent.

You got a lot of strength to admit to yourself and ventanon that you were wrong. A lot of people cant do that. I hope everything works out.
Good luck!

Just reading this over again and wanted to let you all know that everything has been just fine. My co-worker can totally be trusted and I’ve also learned I’ve not been the only one to cut a few corners now and then. I’m remaining on the straight-and-narrow, but it helps to know I’m not the only one.
