Stay optimistic and keep being yourself. Boys are confusing and all sorts or adjectives…but mostly because WE over think everything they do/say/wear… they tough part is – they aren’t that deep AT ALL. No lie. They say what they mean… no hidden message, no read between the lines, no hinthinthint, nothing like it at all.

Especially if you’re high-school age, he could be excited by the opportunity of having a girlfriend, but a little hesitant to actually take your hand and say ‘this is my girlfriend.’ That’s not all as bad as it seems- my high school boyfriend liked me, and I said “I like you but only sort of,” and then a week later decided it would be a good idea to date him after all. It seemed like a good idea to get experience. And so at first I felt like I was settling, but after a while fell in love with him, and it wound up being a very fulfilling two-year-long relationship. So you never can tell. Try not to push him, it’s more likely he’ll warm up to the idea of dating you if you’re not seeming too clingy.
