My friend just got a ten day suspension and possible expulsion hearing. He’s in two AP classes (at my school, we only have four classes a semester), student council, the National Honor Society, and all the teachers love him. He got in all this trouble because somebody apparently saw him go off campus with two of my other friends to smoke a joint before school. Now, I kind of agree with them getting caught, because they just went across the street behind a CHURCH (how can you really not use common sense?), but these are students who’ve never gotten in trouble before, they’re upstanding citizens in the school, et cetera et cetera. Now… Think about me. I go even farther than my friend does. I’m a straight-A student, have been all my three years of high school (I’m a senior now and hoping to continue on the legacy), I’m taking a total of seven classes this semester, three of which are AP, I’m applying to seven colleges and working towards over $200,000 in scholarships, I have the highest ACT score out of my entire school, I’ve been student of the month (we’re elected student of the month and then get the benefits of cake and punch forever), I do extremely well in class, and I actually kind of enjoy school. All my teachers adore me, my guidance councilor thinks I’m fantastic, my vice-principal loves me, and even my principal can’t really say anything bad about me. Now, throw this into the equation; I smoke cigarettes. I smoke a copious amount of weed. I drink. I have sex with my boyfriend. If my friends would’ve been able to find me in the morning when they went to smoke, I probably would’ve went with them and got caught also.
Is it really such a bad thing if we’re obviously doing this well? Is society that stupid? Just because a lot of people choose to abuse drugs doesn’t mean the drugs are bad. Its people, not drugs. People don’t have self-control enough to get their heads out of their asses and realize that they have control over every single thing they do, including their habits. Why should we, the do-gooders (at least in school) be punished because we want to enjoy our time? Because we partake in a substance to release stress? I smoke weed because it helps me with my homework. It helps me focus. Now, why would my teachers, or my vice-principal, or my principal, want to take that away? Fuck people who can’t understand that they have control. Fuck people who think that, just because people smoke or drink, that they’re automatically going to fuck up their life and throw all their family and friends out the window. I’m doing JUST FINE thank you very much!

This is the problem with society today. We raise our kids in Dare and demonize weed and then you find out that pot is truly awesome. Then you resent authority, because they lied about pot and bust everyone they can for it. So then you get messed up about being part of such a f’ed up system and end up dropping out or getting busted yourself and then people point and say “look at what weed did to them!” It wasn’t weed, it was this farked up system and society. Just keep playing the game. My biggest mistake was equating doing what I was “supposed” to with selling out. Turns out going for the degree and the best place in the rat race really are always the best things to do. And never take chances. If someone’s gonna get busted, don’t let it be you.

I’m not going to tell you that weed is bad. I’m not going to tell you you shouldn’t smoke pot. I’m not going to do those things, cuz I’m slightly baked at the moment.
What I am going to tell you is that if your going to partake in something that’s illegal, then you (in this case, your friends) need to be smarter about it and not do it before school. Or not leave school grounds to get high. Do it on the way into school. One of you must have a drivers license and car.
Or you save that shit for after school when your getting ready to do homework, or before you go out with friends. NEVER carry it on you. If you insist on doing that, make sure its a small enough amount you could eat it quick if you had to and had the chance.
Until this government pulls its head out of its ass and re-legalizes weed, you need to be careful. You are the next generation. We need smart smokers like you to get into congress and legalize this stuff.
In short, keep that all that shit on the down-low and just be smart about where and when you do it.
